Events

Here is a list of events that may be of interest to paddlers, fishers, river enthusiasts and supporters of Grand Rapids Whitewater.

  • Grand River Expedition 2010   —   Jul 14, 2010   7:59am - Jul 26, 2010   8:59am
    Jackson to Grand Haven
The Grand River Expedition 2010 is a river journey and river study to foster awareness and responsibility for the Grand River “All members of the public are invited to join us in this endeavor, whether it’s for the entire trip or for just a day or two,” says noted Michigan paddler Charlie Parmelee of Leslie. As expedition rivermaster, Parmelee will lead the group of canoeists, kayakers and others down the river. “This will be a trip to remember. It will be family-friendly, combining recreation and learning.”

Before roads, canals, and railroads, the Grand River was an important navigational route through the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, used for centuries by various Native American tribes and later by explorers and settlers. The expedition is made up of a broad coalition of organizations, individuals, and communities traveling downriver to identify, study and enjoy the values, challenges and opportunities of the Grand River and its 5,570 square mile watershed. This effort will contribute to the public’s knowledge, awareness and appreciation of the Grand River and how it connects communities across the region for present and future generations.
  • Kayak / Canoe Photo Shoot For New GR Brochure   —   Jun 19, 2010   9:00am - 11:00am
    Ah-Nab-Awen Park

Come on down and float the Grand with us on Saturday the 19th. This is a group photo op for the new Grand Rapids City brochure. Put in at Ah-Nab-Awen* and make it as short or as long as you desire. We will spend the first hour just playing on the water for the camera. I know a lot of folks will take out early and go visit the 3rd Annual Founders Fest! The last group float we held was for Art Prize and ended up being published in the New York Times. Long boats, short boats or canoes - all welcome. Please join us.

*Please don't put in above the Bridgewater Bldg. That first dam is a drowning machine.
